dólar triste — tuned digital clipper
studios für erwachsenenbildung devices (SFE)

At its core one juxtaposition: disintegration and kitsch forming one sound, the
broken made to sing.

WHAT IT IS
A Max for Live audio effect for Ableton Live 12. A digital clipper (fuzz with
integer wrap, bit crush, samplerate reduction, buffer glitch) fed through a tuned
resonator and a reverb. The resonator reads the project's key/scale live, so
even a chaotic stutter stays in tune. It is built to stay married to your signal:
the resonator colours the dirt, it is not a separate instrument. See the manual
(PDF) for every control.

REQUIREMENTS
Ableton Live 12 Suite, or Live 12 plus the Max for Live add-on.

INSTALL
Copy dólar triste.amxd into your User Library, e.g. ~/Music/Ableton/User Library/,
and drag it onto an AUDIO track. This .amxd is frozen: the scale-reading script is
embedded, so it is a single self-contained file, nothing else to install.

PUSH 3 STANDALONE
Runs on Push 3 Standalone. It is frozen and self-contained, and the parameters are
laid out in banks (Suciedad, Glitch, Resonador, Generador, Salida, LFO, LFO2,
Notas A/B) for the Push display. It is CPU-heavy (resonator plus reverb plus two
LFOs), so keep an eye on the load.

CONTROLS (short, see the manual for detail)
Suciedad (the dirt): tone pre (with mode and res), fuzz (with model: wrap, fold,
sine, digi, cheby, gate), env, tone post, crush, srate, glitch (with pitch and
sync; scatters to stereo at high density; frz freezes the stutter pattern), snap.
Resonador (the voice): reso, model (dolar / peso / euro), structure, brightness,
time, note / oct, pre. Generative: frz plus mem (freeze the last musical idea),
rnd (random in-key melody), notes (project scale or your own 12 pitches), pluck
(noise-excite, so rnd and freeze play like an instrument). arp / seed sets the
rhythm of change for glitch pitch and melody: constant motion or held notes.
LFO x2: rate, sync, depth, wave, and two targets (the second can be mirrored with
inv, so one control rises while another falls). The target "lfo rate"
  cross-modulates the other LFO's speed.
Salida / master: mix, output, limit (final peak limiter, off at the left), verb
(master plate reverb, after everything) with decay (tail length, short to long),
midi in (play the resonator from MIDI).

SIGNAL FLOW
in -> tone pre -> fuzz -> tone post -> crush -> srate -> glitch -> snap
   -> resonator -> mix / output -> verb -> out
The envelope follower ties the input level to the fuzz. Each LFO sweeps one
control. The glitch transposition sets the resonator's pitch, snapped to the key.
reso pre folds the resonator back before the dirt so it gets fuzzed too.

SELF-PLAYING
With rnd and pluck both on and reso up, it generates and plays a random in-key
melody by itself, no input needed, running on the transport.

NOTES
Every effect knob fully-left = off. mix starts full, so out of the box the signal
passes clean until you dial something in. tone pre and tone post are bipolar
(centre = flat). True stereo throughout.
